Now everything is the way smaller and more compact than a few years ago. The time has passed when a PC looks like a cumbersome machine. To ascertain in my words let’s look at the PCs popular nowadays. We have got our hands on a number of mini PCs and we know a lot about them. I mean we have managed to see mini PCs in different forms and housing, but the one I am going to introduce you right now is out from any list. Meet the K8 mini PC, a full-featured mini PC in a form of a folding keyboard or it’ll be more correct to say this is a full-featured mini PC with a folding keyboard attached.
Though the K8 mini PC comes in a unique form-factor, its features are identical to regular mini PCs. Thus no one can argue as the appearance of the K8 mini PC can affect the configuration it comes with.
However, the form it comes at makes the manufacturer to make some changes like replacing a one of the USB ports with a D-sub (VGA port). May be this is not conditioned with the form it comes at, but there is a D-sub port, and that’s a fact.
The K8 mini PC comes in a black box wrapped by an orange tape.
The packaging includes:
This product is made for those who look for a mini PC that can be taken to anywhere. So the presence of a leather case is quite reasonable. It is made of a synthetic leather. Thus you can take it with you even when going to a business trip.
The keyboard is flexible. And we have to say this is the selling point of the K8 mini PC.
Moreover, you can fold it down easily. No tricks needed.
Thereafter you can put it into the case.
The K8 mini PC put into the case weighs 371 grams and looks pretty nice. Take it anywhere you go. But you have to know no accessories can be put into the case.
As for the overall design, the touchpad is placed on the unit, which is on the right side.
It’s supposed the keyboard is made of silicon or silicone rubber or rubber. Anyway, we are dealing with a full keyboard where the numeric keypad is missing. The keys are very soft due to the material they come at. The keystrokes are deeper than what we have used to see on regular laptops.
Using a keyboard always means to see the result instantly. But when there is no display you can’t know whether you have pressed the right key. Even if you are a ‘classified typer’ there is no reliance you have done it correctly. In this sense, the existence of a keyboard doesn’t change anything when getting hands on this mini PC. But I guess the manufacturer doesn’t add it there for this purpose – it’s done to help you avoiding to buy a keyboard for further use. Moreover, the keyboard is made of a rubber. Thus it’s uncomfortable to use it every time you need a keyboard. This keyboard is not comfortable for long text input, but when you need to type something quickly, this part of the K8 mini PC can be very useful.
The right side of the mini PC carries USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, a micro SD card slot, a reset button, and a power button.
The upper side comes with a HDMI port, a D-sub port, and a DC-IN port. Many users think the latter is unnecessary, and it’ll be better to replace it with an additional USB port.
There is also a WiFi antenna, which can lay when not used. There also three LED indicators on the touchpad. When the K8 mini PC is turned on, it is in blue. When it goes to sleep mode, it turns into red. And finally, when it’s locked, we can see it is yellow.
The bottom side doesn’t differ from other similar products. This is a fan-less mini PC with a vent hole on the bottom.
At last, let’s take a peek at the product from the side to evaluate its thickness.
The K8 mini PC sports a respectable chipset, RAM and internal memory. Moreover, there are a decent set of useful ports, but all these features can be found on other mini PCs. So what’s make this product special. The answer is obvious – the folding keyboard. Of course, this keyboard is not recommended for long text input, but it can implement the main task assigned to it.
This is not the most powerful we have ever seen like the Z83 II but it’s the only mini PC with a keyboard attached to it. So we can conclude the K8 mini PC is great for business trips and usage like this. In this sense, $199.99 is a great pricing. I mean business mini PCs cost the way more expensive, and the K8 mini PC can make an actual competition to them.
